So basically the setup is a sundown sa15 on an ignite audio 6000d1. It’s 1100 watts rms driven off a cheap dual head unit. 4 gauge Rockford fosgate ofc wiring with sound deadening in the trunk. Hooked up in a crown Victoria p71.
After vigorous testing and tuning and restarting and months of trying to find a spot where I’m content with the sound it’s just not enough. 40-45 hertz only hits 130 dB and anything lower just rolls off. The box measures 4.3 cubic feet (assuming my math and measurements are correct) with no bracing. The box shakes like absolute hell to the point where when you pop the trunk it’s most of what you hear. Everything that I saw on these subs tells me one on 750 watts should play at least 140 decibels which is twice as loud 3 times. And I’m running it on 1100 watts so any help to get louder would Be appreciated.
Mostly curious to know if the prefab box from the electronics store is to blame or the head unit or maybe both?
I ran a single mtx 15 in a 2.5 foot ported box that hit a lot harder and flexed my entire car on 600 watt boss amp and this system barely bounces my trunk so I’m absolutely confused. Any advice is appreciated

sundown suggests 2.5 cuft sealed or 3.5cuft ported. So the box you have it in is not a match. I could not find and info on the amp except for the big dwiz video. Ultimately i think its a cheap amp running a nice sub in the wrong box. I wouls start with the box.

miniSQ beat me to it- that box does not seem ideal, between the too large of sizing and lack of bracing.

Thank you both for the quick response, was thinking about building a box with a 6 inch aero port and bracing. Would adding a second one of these amplifiers and running them together for clean power at about 1600 be better (after the new box) or do you think I should go for a replacement?

I've no comment on the amp, but I wouldn't be surprised if the headunit was also part of the problem, although less so of one.

Bass boost is on, I know this isn’t the best way to set up an amp, but I used an app to read frequencies from 20-20k hz and played pink noise And adjusted my settings until I got a relatively even graph, meaning 20 hz and 20k hz are at the same volume. Then used music to find where my factory speakers just barely start to distort then turned it back a bit. I set low pass just low enough that no voices come through, and subsonic at about 30hz. From there I set the gain to get as close too 1100 watts (in my case 22 volts on multimeter) but it only reached about 18. So I turned bass boost up just enough to reach 22.
As I said I know it’s not the right way to do it but it worked.

TLDR: only enough bass boost to bring voltage to 22 when gain didn’t go far enough.

turn the bass boost off. And lower the LP filter on your sub to about 70 or 80hz. (as opposed to "low enough to filter out voices).

I will reset lpf tomorrow morning and kill the bass boost. Unfortunately I can’t really brace the box atm due to the design. (Sub faces up vent off the side) will post an update first thing in Ohio morning. Thank you all for your input and such quick responses!

For a trunk enclosure being ported.. Sub facing rear and port facing rear approx.1 foot recessed should yield some of the best results for Trunk sub woofer location if not sealed off to the firing forward to cab area or running Baffle. Get a properly tuned enclosure built for the sub woofer recommendation and place sub rear port rear is where I would start. You should achieve much better Bass response rather than the current enclosure of which is not Ideal for a sub woofer located in the trunk from my personal install experiences

After you get the right size box, you’ll probably want to revisit the subsonic filter frequency as well. It might be a bit high, it’s in the audible range now. If you run a ported box, you’ll probably want to set it a bit below the tuning frequency for your ported box, maybe a half-octave or so.

Just had a chance to lower lpf to around 80 and kill bass boost. As far as sound quality it’s amazing but as far as bass response, i mostly listen to decaf music. There you can definitely tell there’s a sub but for reference my side view mirrors won’t even shake. For typical music (mgk ticket to my downfall album) it’s like I just have a good set of 6x9s. That whole 15 is barely audible over the rest.

My old Taurus came with the 6 speaker “premium sound system” by Mach and they sound nearly identical.

I just measured the box one more time and came up with 4.2 cubic feet. But the port is 2.5 wide and 22 inches tall. I typed everything into a calculator and it’s telling me vent length should be ~28 inches but the port is almost 40. My wallet hurts so bad. today I learned to build your own box instead of relying on a commission based salesman. Could have built exactly what I need for half the price if not less than what i paid for this box smh.
