I replaced the 4 inch mids of my CDT 642 3-way set with a Vifa PL11WH09-04. The midrange is greatly improved. What are the thoughts on this series? I am considering replacing the 6.5's as well. The basket of the vida 4 was identical to the CDT, the magnet was much heavier. My set was bought in 2002, I noticed that the new CDT set has the same magnet weight as the Vifa I just bought.

I think you will be much happier spending a little less money than the Vifa Pl and replacing your cdt mid with a Seas CA18RNX. :)

Seas are cheaper, more detailed and open sounding, and the bass is punchier/snappier.

The specs for the CDT 4 you have are actually for the old CDT 4". CDT never updated their specs. These old specs are nearly identical to the vifa pl11wg09-04e. I suspect that CDT had trouble with these (I did) and went up to the PL11WH09-04. Notice that the magnet weight listed for the new CDT 4 is the same as the PL11WH09-04.

Ah I'm sorry I thought you were talking about replacing the 6.5" :)

The vifa pl11 mid is actually a pretty good driver, if not a bit on the warm side. It's certainly a very dynamic and beefy driver as far as a 4" mid goes.

Vifa pl is definitely for those seeking a rich, warm, dark, softer sound Imo.

problem with the seas CA18RNX is it is 8 ohm. I only have 75 wpc @4 ohm, 8 ohm would drop it down to 37.5 wpc. What about the Seas lotus series?

Those mids should play fine off that much power. Have you read this thread yet?

Pretty big price difference between the Lotus and the CA18RNX. Either choice will be good though. Just depends on how much you want to spend. I'd try out the CA18RNX. If you don't like them they should be easy to resell.
