got two very old (~1998) mtx thunder 5000 12" 4 ohm svc subs in a sealed box, but good enough to keep to save money. my old school (~1998) mtx2300 amp finally dumped on me - man i loved that amp. what will give me the tightest, most accurate bass? i've read (not personally heard) that driving them with a class d monoblock at 2 0hms can be "sloppy" sounding at times, but again, not from first hand experience. so, would bridging a class d like the eclipse xa4200 (400 rms/ch) at 4 ohms be similar to running an a/b class amp like i had, or akin to running monoblock (d class), or virtually indistinguishable from either? i would like the effeciency of class d but don't want to sacrifice any tight bass response because of it. thanks for any experienced input.

I vote ALL people posting must have their vehicle, age, & location filled out....

We cannot help you unless YOU let us HELP you....

What car/vehicle? What Head unit? most importantly WHAT MUSIC?

Damn... I am not being the "arrogant-*******" but... help us e sure we can help you....

Tell us about your vehicle & what you are listening too...

the 2300 was a MONSTER hidden in a very average package... you really need to give us SOMETHING to help you...

sorry wagon ; got a '95 lincoln mark viii (love/hate it :)), am 44 y/o, live in louisiana. everything was installed in '98, so it's all old stuff. pioneer hu and seperate pioneer 15 band eq with cadence 6 or 7 volt line driver/4 band parametric eq with very limited x/o capabilities. i listen to everything (that helps alot, huh), but mostly old rock, 90's "get off" music (man, those were the good ol "rollin" days :D); no classical, not an audiophile by any means, but i do appreciate clean, loud reproduction. and yes, that 2300 was a beast!!! king, i hear ya, that's why i called steve at zed,s and he said he would repair it, but he's coming out with a 250x2 @4 ohm this spring and i think i'm gonna get that for a passive front stage (i know, i know... DIYMA :)). still might get it repaired anyway and use it on my fronts. if there's anything else i need to divulge with regards to subs, please let me know. thanks ya'll.

I can only speak for myself but I've never had any issues with mid level to high end class D amps for subs. I sure some of the lower end designs might sound like poo or get sloppy but then for that matter I would assume there are some poo sounding A/B's too. I find the advice on fixing the 2300 to be quite sound, probably what I would do. maybe $100 vs say $200 to $250 for say a used JL 500/1 as an example

As far as class D on the subs. no problems here either. I ran an MTX 1500dx (same series as the 2300 and RARE) for years with no issues, and I run memphis belles now with class D sub channels, no problems at all. if ya dont wanna get that 2300 fixed, send it to me. Ill give ya 25 bucks and shipping for it

nice try king ;), but after rethinking my plans, i think i am gonna send it to steve for repair and use it on the fronts to save some $$$ :D. so if i go class d mono for the subs @ ~300-400wrms/speaker @ a 2 ohm load (knowing that i was throwing ~200wrms/speaker @ a 4 ohm load with a/b class), i should'nt appreciate any loss of sound quality? thanks for any input.
