Back when rock was made by people actually knew how to play their instruments:
Great songs...haven't heard them in a long time!
But I have to disagree regarding modern musicians not knowing how to play their instruments.
These songs are great and are "catchy/memorable", but they are fairly simple and predictable rock chord progressions and rhythms. Just swap some of those basic chords for others and change the rhythm guitars slightly and you've got the ingredients for a ton of other classic rock songs.
New artists don't always want to simply copy everything that was done in the past, otherwise they'd be accused of doing so, and probably dismissed. But IMO, there are more guitar and other instrument virtuosos now than ever. There are just much larger "haystacks" and volumes of music/bands to find those needles in now.
