I made a slot port enclosure for a single RF 8" dual voice coil sub. The box is tuned to 33 Hz. The box plays much lower than I anticipated and the output is pretty impressive for a single 8". It's very smooth and would work well for a home theater. The issue is the punch. If I try hip hop or anything with a kick drum, the sub just falls on it's face. It's awful. Is it the nature of the tuning?

Temporarily seal the vent up (perhaps by stuffing a towel into it). Does that improve the "punch"?

its still a single 8, no matter how you slice it, its a single 8. It will have problem with "impact" at higher volumes.

Can you provide a video of it doing well, and also falling on its face?

Thanks guys. I don't have a video handy and the box is already mounted. My buddy wanted something small to fit under the bed of his camper and these were pretty much the MAX dimensions I had to work with. Plan B is going to be a single JL 10W0-4 since he already has one handy. I'm going to try a sealed down-firing box to better fill the large 36 foot camper.

On a side note- I tested the ported box in my workshop loading off of the floor as well as in a corner. Then I tried it in the backseat of a Chevy quad cab pickup. I had varying results but the common problem was always there. My buddy liked the box so much that he wants to replace the (2) JL 10's in his pick-up with a ported 8. I, being an audiophile, was disappointed.
