Ok, i know everyone says that 6x9's are a waste of money and will hurt front imaging. But i drive a 4 door sedan, and i woud like my car to have 100% functionality, thus i would want some kind of speaker in the rear deck for my passengers, and for rear fill, but without compromising the front sound quality too great.

Anyone have some good opinions on what i should put in there?

I plan to run Focal Tn52 tweeters w/ SEAS reference woofers in the front on an active setup. And i have a Seas Lotus 12" sub in the trunk. I really dont want to do any custom work thus a 3-way setup isn't a viable option... and i dont want kick panels taking up my foot rest space....

So, what should i place in the rear 6x9 location? a 6.5-8" speaker? or actuall 6x9 speakers... What would blend well with my proposed setup?

Please suggest,
Thanks

You are nice... cause I wouldn't give a crap about rear passengers...

To me the need for rear fill is non-existant, besides the open holes help the bass responce & serve as an energy release for the preassure in the trunk, lessening the amount of rattles & energy loss on the low end.

Also... :) No one ever thinks about the abuse they will get having the sub preasure push against them... so honestly if you must, it really doesn't matter because whatever you put there the pressure from the sub will affect the sound... And even if it didn't, since you don't want it to mess the front stage, then you wouldn't hear them now would you?

Food for thought!

i know i know, but without some sound comming from the rear deck, it feels empty. It just doesn't sound all that great with my speakers faded to the front 100%.

I like to have a 70/30 fade to the front, and my passengers will also be happy. My speakers are mounted in the stock locations, i feel that without kick pods, or having teh speakers aim better towards your head, the rear fill help makes the sound more full. But not enough to disrupt the front.

also, i'm going from a 2 door coupe to a 4 door sedan, so i would like my stereo to have a tad more functionality for the rear passengers, and not just have them get a free back mesage from the bass.

but what do you recommend go in the 6x9's?

Any DIY 6x9's even exist? Or should i try to fit some 6.5" woofer or something?

you could just mount a diy midrange , bp them and tune them for very low output for a little fill, wont rip the passengers ears off,or bring image too rearward,if the subs are in the trunk you might want to cap the rear of the speakers off-spl will interact with the cones, but i have to admit i have an all front stage also -disabled speakers in the rear

^That's a good idea.

I don't use rear fill myself, even in a sedan install, but I could see maybe a fullrange, in it's own sealed chamber. Then mount it so there is still air being passed through the 6x9 opening.

Maybe the Aura NS3 off deck power.

so what would you guys think about matching a SEAS refrence midrange... But arn't these like 3" speakers?? Feels a bit weird.... to go in a 6x9 place.

I have a 6 channel Diamond D7 for my cabin speakers, so everything will be powered off the amp.

My car came with component rears, I just disabled the tweet and turn the volume on real low when passengers are with me. Everyone thinks it sounds great and I don't have to deal with weird rear fill--I personally don't like it coming from the rear, but have turned them on to please a friend of mine who really likes some sound from the rears. Oh, and they are running off deck power and you can surely still tell they are "adding" when they are on.
