I am about to place an order for a single Image Dynamics subwoofer. I was going to get the new 4 ohm Image Dynamics IDQ8 DVC sub because I thought that would put me at 2 ohms which would be perfect for the JL XD600/1. But I now see that the actual resistance of the 4 ohm model is 2.9 ohms(according to woffersetc.com, could not find spec sheet on ID website) so that would put me at 1.45 ohms if wired parallel. As far as I can tell the amp is not stable that low, would it even work?
Rated Continuous (RMS) Power @ 14.4 V(from JL website)
@ 4 Ω 400 W RMS x 1
@ 3 Ω 500 W RMS x 1
@ 2 Ω 600 W RMS x 1
@ 1.5 Ω N/A

So am I better off running the 2 ohm model which is actually 1.85 ohms? That would put me at 3.7 ohms in series so it should draw somewhere around 440 Watts. The sub is rated at 500 watts RMS. Am I better off from a sound quality perspective going with the higher impedance anyway will it give me controlled bass? My original logic was to get as much power as possible that's why I was shooting for 2 ohms. Sorry if this was long winded, I have never bought/installed a sub before.

3.2 ohms DC resistance or AC impedance? According to them they just built these, it is supposedly a new model.
yes I know it is a new model. I pushed to get the model, built the prototypes and primarilly almost all of the ones they have in stock. Or a fellow Richard just built more (good guy, working at ID since it started)

Other thing to consider is box rise, so chances of actually seeing below 2ohms is next to none.

Great! I have never heard of box rise, but I just ordered the 4 ohm DVC, parallel 2 ohm mode one so this is good to hear. I am assuming this means the wiring/enclosure is adding its own additional impedance?
Its the resistance you get while sub is playing in different sized enclosures. SPL guys use this to get the very most out of their amps during a db contests.
