Got me thinking. So you have an excellent set up but decide you "need" to change something out by in the belief you'll find nirvana. (Notice my wtb thread) So you buy one set. Then another and another. Eventually you have enough equipment to last a lifetime or...two.
I talked to installer yesterday and he has had stuff over a decade not installed yet!
Eventually well get around to installing it right?..Lol
So fess up. :D

Yep, I'm guilty. Though not of having an "excellent setup". LOL

Currently have enough equipment for (4) complete installs and then some, but only have one car I drive. LOL

I have swapped out equipment among the items I have in hopes of a better system, and so I can justify having bought it (I guess).

At this point in time, of the equipment I have, the items that have yet to be used are as follows;

Pioneer DEH-80PRS
Alpine MRD-M501
Alpine SPS-46C2
Alpine SPS-610c
Polk DXi104 (2)
Boston GTA-704
Boston GT2200
JL VR525-CSi
Optimus XL-50
And then some various sound deadening and (Lots of) installation equipment.

Yeah, I finally forced myself to sell off some of the equipment I had last year (well, my mother was really hassling me about becoming a hoarder), sold off a few amps, a handful of subs, four sets of speakers, and one stereo.

Most of my extra gear came from starting to switch over to smaller class D amps. All of my dinosaur a/b amps went into the closet despite trying to get rid of them a few times. Finally got rid of some, but still have a few more to go.

As far as drivers.... well, that's a horse of a different color somewhat. The augmented wideband approach opened up doors to an existing off-axis issue, but space isn't premium. As more advanced drivers emerged, I bought some thinking they may be of use although half never made it to install. Once I get the right combo, the rest can go to someone in need. One set of drivers coming will probably be the last for the doors. ;) The next step will be trying to decide what to couple with them.

Last year I bought 3 amps, and 2 subs that never left the box because before I got to the project, I found something I liked better. I resold them at a slight loss.

Project is done now and I already have another amp and a head unit (80PRS) down stairs waiting for a dash kit. BY the time the dash kit gets here, I am pretty sure I will have pulled the trigger on a set of JBL-P660C's to replace my barely broken in Polk components.

Does that qualify as a "disorder"?

Official S.A.D. member! Lol. Not that it's a bad thing. I mean not to get off topic but I have a friend who has over five hundred guns. Another over a thousand "sharp objects" ranging from straight razors to knives. Another golf clubs to guitars. So put everything in perspective and this is a good hobby. Like anything, it can be cheap or expensive.

You can save a bit of money with amps if you buy something that's versatile and around medium power. Easier said than done, but I've found something I can live with for a good while and can be used in many ways.

As far as drivers... ha! Change cars and its pretty much inevitable!

I used to, but I got so sick of everything taking up so much space and hauling the stuff around when I would move. It started to become a burden. I've been slowly getting rid of everything that I have no immediate or near future use for. I'll list it for sale and if I get no interest after a while it goes in the garbage. Feels pretty good to clear everything out.

I feel like I've finally gotten to the point where I don't need to tinker all the time and I have found the right sound without escalating to custom A-pillars, etc. So I've been whittling down my personal collection to the point where I barely have anything on the shelves in my office. Maybe 6-7 extra amps, no extra HUs, maybe a couple pairs of extra speakers. Feels really weird but nice to not have a bunch of $$$ tied up in "inventory" for once lol.

Not to mention inventory that loses value over time. This is especially true of holding onto older model "no-frills" A/B amps. Found that out the hard way. Luckily I used some as Xmas gifts which actually felt good in more ways than one.... getting rid of excess, and making others happy with something they probably wouldn't think or can't afford to spend money on.

i have a corner of my living room full of gear... i have a really hard time passing up "good values" on craigslist... even for alot of stuff ill probably never use, but know its worth more then its asking price... i also cant stand to see a nostalgic item at a low price... altho it has turned out, more then once, that i end up using gear i bought just for the collecting... :)
