Yes I have the centre algorithm. I also used the Helix Auto time alightment and it worked really well. But my time alightment was made to in-between both seats where both our head reside. The centre algorithm removes hard right/left and only leaves common signal.
Okay, I don’t know what I’m talking about anyway, it sounds like you’re doing it right. I’m out of channels on my Helix with my 2-way and a sub, would like to have a center channel someday.

I got an M4 DSP and it's one of the cheapest Helix gear and it does an awesome job. 10ch plus 4 amplified, can't beat it.

Last night I was able to get some EQing done on the pairs, subs and the centre. My centre was way louder than my left and right. I had to bring the tweeter down like 12db on the output and it still way louder. But I left some room to tune the mid and tweeter down when I EQ them together.

Then I was able to go out and takes some measurements today and play a lil.

Here's left and right tweeter, mid, and midbass. Both subs playing together, one with the volume on the conductor at half and the other all the way up. After EQ. It's good enough for me so I'm gonna move on to do left and right. When I can, hopefully next weekend.

Centre channel... tweeter and mid then together after turning down the tweeter. I'm guessing they are out of phase so I have a dip at the crossover. I'll try n fix that if not I'm just gonna leave it be.

Left and right together. I think I have a null at 700 and 400. But maybe 400 is also phase related. I'll try in fix them when I tune it together if I can't ill leave it be.

Add the subs, that dip at 400 is gone. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Centre vs left and right. I'm gonna tune it down to try n match the output.

And one for @Speedhunter for talking down about my bass head subs.😃 Factory head unit VS DAC no subsonic and a 65hz LPF.

🤦🏽‍♂️ I wanted to start tunning the left and right. But I just realized I forgot to take those measurements. 😮‍💨 guess I was too excited to see how everything summed up together.

When I was a youngin, when ever some one said something illiterate we would say "Who learned you how to spoke?". I'm completely REW illiterate 😔 so I want to spark a conversation with some of you fine young/old folks/farts 😃 (jk, dont hang me) about REW. Maybe a why, when, where you decided you needed REW in your life. How you learned, who taught you, how you do it.

I'm sure there's different methods, maybe some one can shoot some of their skills this way. When I got my car back last year from the installer it was a blank slate. I undid the crossovers, re set gains, re-did the input EQ, then I Helix Auto just about Everyting. This was/is new to me. My tune was done in my jobs parking lot before a night shift when I had a lil time. Took a while... half hour here and there for months. Then the finicky UMIK-1 was always cutting out on a constant mid measurement 😡. I'm a busy man with hardly any play time to my self. I got it sounded how I like, but I feel I cheated.

I bought a UMIK-2 a whiles back and a couple weeks ago I started playing with REW. Took a few mesurment just to play with it while I was waiting for my wife to get her nails did 💅. I realized I didn't know WTF I was doing. I brought the Laptop in to the house yesterday to email the pics to my self. I'll post them.

I want to dive in (when time allows) and finish where the Helix Auto tune left off. Hand jerk here n there to see if I can squeeze a lil more out of the tune.

My system consist of rear and front sub. 3 way on my doors, 2 way centre.

I take my measurement in the driver seat waving the magic stick around my face. My TA is also set in between where mine and the wives head reside. So basically a 2 seat tune, kinda. I know there should be an average between both seats but I got to learn to REW first. Plus Fvck her seats response I already compromised my TA.😃

This is a measurement with everything playing. I forgot to turn the sub down when I took this measurement. When I did the auto tune I brought the rear subs down to the front sub level.

View attachment 359065

That hump at 1xxhz wast there when I did my tune but since I didn't turn the sub down I get some rear deck rattles. I think that was what it was. I also tuned my sub flat initially but I didn't like it and after some playing. I seemed to like a peek at 40hz

I took this today in the parking lot before my shift started. With the rear sub at like 1/3rd volume.

View attachment 359066

NO centre with and withoug the sub up in volume.

I had read a bunch of REW tutorials but I didn't read them before taking the mesurments and I just kinda shot from the hip. Matter of fact I just barely learned how to make the measurement look squiggly instead of like the stair way to heaven.

These are the settings I have set up. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. 😕

I just want to learn to REW before I dive in face first into hand jerking a tune.

If you gotta story of how you learned, please share. You got some pointers for me, please share. Any input or criticism is welcomed.

Sorry for the long post I'm at work n bored. It's about to be midnight, and I still got 6 hours to go. I'll end it here so I don't loose my progress.
It’s Honda ,

The REW help files are the magic knowledge base

don’t trust anyone on the internet

John the author was very precise and explains things in the help files like it’s a “for dummies” kinda language (exactly what I need because I’m a dummy)

read all of it , don’t just read the topics you want, read it all because all of it is tied together and all
Inclusive to itself….

learn about IR centering, learn about setup, windowing, preferences, analysis, learn the entire thing… read it all …. It took me 6 evenings to do the entire thing.

that was the single best thing for me, know your sample rates and how they affect the measurements, exporting auto eq ,all of it…

you come out of it with a whole new attitude, then download rephase and do some simulations , that will teach you to understand phase and how to see delay in a measurement and such

You’ll make yourself an expert quickly

Where these files at. I'll gladly read them. Are they on the net or in the program.

I tuned the centre last night almost matched the left and right but my centre tweeter is still kinda hot. Loaded it this morning before leaving to work and had a listen. It sounds way better than before. I'm not even done with it but it's way more balanced than before. I'm not even missing that 40hz peak that I thought I liked. My front stage will need to be turned up when I'm done tunning but I'll do that when it set and done.

One issue I'm having though is my front sub. I had a HPF of 65 before and now it's at 50hz. At high listening levels I can bottom it out so I may need to turn that down a bit. But the lil thing is putting in work. It has 1300w available to it and it's rated 700w so I knew this was going to happen. It has its own volume control on the conductor and I had to drop it a few clicks. I may just leave it as is and turn it down when needed. And if I kill it 😃 Morel Ultimo titanium it is.

I would maybe run DATS on that sub and see where fs is , then cross right above that

if it’s high Q fs may simply be too high and means box too small…. Lots of excursion too small box

Or your just beating it up cause it’s fun 🤩
It's an Hertz ml2000.3 it has an fs of 40hz it has .5 cbft sealed. I'm just sending it too much power cuz I like the way it sounds 😃

I spent the last few days early in the AM before work adjusting the levels by ear. Then I'd take a quick measurement. I also made a mistake with the bass.

I knew my factory head unit had a subsonic in the 30s so I had used the Augmented bass feature to boost 30hz. I forgot that was enabled so I also re-did the rear sub, it's been EQed already I just haven't taken measurements yet. I've also EQed the Full left, right and centre, I just haven't taken measurements yet.

This is where I settled on the levels.

This has been really fun to me.😃 I'll post some more pics when I take measurements of the EQed Left, Right, and Centre.

Nice work!
Seems like you’re getting it figured out pretty quick.

Can you post screen grabs instead of taking photos with your phone?
Makes it much easier to see details and understand what you’re doing.
Win+shift+s FTW!
Sure why not 😃

Went out to take measurements in the Dark lol. The wife thinks I'm nuts. I've been on the laptop and taking measurements all day.

Funny thing is my management pissed me off yesterday. I do more than most and they only want more. They really needed me today but instead I used a millennial day and decided not to come in. New year, new bank of sick and vacation days.

These are after EQing. I have a nasty null at 500 that I can't make go away so I'm just gonna leave it be.

I couldn't find the FTW button so I snippet it. Lol

I already EQed the left and right together. I just need to take the mesurment. Then I can EQ everything together. It's about to be midnight and my wife will probly beat me if I go back out to take more mesurments.

Took a some measurements today. 😃 I EQed L+R+Subs last night and I had a bunch of errands to run today. Listen to it and it sounded really good but it was off a lil. I couldn't explain it. I just know something was missing. Took the mesurments and I realized I matched the output of the centre to the left and right. I wanted to match it to the summed left+Right. So I did that and listened again and boom 💥. What I was missing is back.

EQed L+R

Matched Centre.

Combined.

I've EQed all already... I still need to go out and take the mesurments and see how it sounds. I used up just about all my usable EQ bands. Even the ones in the virtual channel. I left that null at 500 alone. It's not going anywhere. But I was happy with it before the combined EQ. I could have left it like that and br totally happy.

I'm done with this.... I got it to do what I want... went out and loaded the EQing.

Here's everything together.

Since I loose bottom end in the 30s I add a 3db boost at 31hz from the Helix argumented FX and this is what it does.

That's where I have settled. Its weird though that boost also evens out the front stage 🤷🏽‍♂️ It sounds amazing!!! I'm not gonna mess with it any more.

I didn't use a target curve I kinda just made mine up from from the way my initial tune looked like cuz I liked it.

I call it the Honda curve.😃

I'm also all tuned out. I'm just gonna enjoy this for now. Eventually I'll do a single seat tune with and withough the centre. Hopefully just changing the TA doesn't throw off the tune too crazy. If it does I'll redo it. Then I'll do one with my DAC or I'll go straight to the DAC just to get my low end that Honda stole from me. 😃

Thanx to the ppl that helped me out to understand (some what) REW. Especially @tjk_bail his lil guide was dope.

This is my story of Who learned you how to REW

I'll post other tunes when I get to em but I probly won't document it. That was alot of work. 😃

If you are happy with how it turns out, that's all that matters.

I currently have two tunes, and I didn't use a target curve for either.

For the past two years, all I did was look at target curves and graphs, so a mental target curve was easy.

The first tune I did was in the parking lot between classes.

All I did was knock down peaks in both left and right drivers to match. Any large peaks that are at around the same frequency in both drivers I left alone and knocked them down using the input EQ.

Tweeters I made Flat from 2k until their natural roll-off

I spent more time on the input EQ than on individual drivers.

It's my most dynamic tune to date. It's flat-out FUN.

I mentally followed the Half white ledge curve for the second tune, which sounded good with cleaner vocals but less dynamic.

When listening to music on the first tune, I always get a pull to the passenger door, causing localization, and I would feel the energy on my leg coming from the driver's door.

So yesterday, I pulled into a parking lot with no microphone, whipped out the lap, and muted all drivers except the right woofer using a -3dB and a Q of 2. I incrementally moved up in frequency from 65hz to 400hz while playing a song that I knew caused localization until I found the offending frequency of 160hz.

I unmuted everything and replayed the song, it still got localization, but this time, it was the driver's door. Guess what's at 160hz on the driver door, a null.

Although there is a null acoustically, the electrical and mechanical energy is still there. The 160 was hot, causing the door card to buzz. By fixing that issue, the vocal became clearer, and the instruments sounded better.

I then played everything together, and the sub pulled to the back. I did the same procedure and ended up with a knotch at 45hz and 160hz ( even though the sub is crossed @ 65hz lr4), which pulled the bass from being at my head to sitting on the dash.

I say all this because I have no one to share these findings with, but more importantly to say you are never done. There is always an adjustment to be made to achieve better sound.

So enjoy your break until the urge to tinker bites you again.

Side note: Although Speedhunter is your archnemesis, you have to give him credit for lighting a fire under you to do some tuning.:ROFLMAO:
