Your absolutely right. I probly not done messing with it. But sounds way, like way, better than before. I just wish I didn't loose so much low end from the factory head unit.

I'm sitting in the car now with my daughter, waiting for the wife to get her nails done. This is a bi-weekly activity. My daughter takes over as DJ and we listen to what ever she wants. She has a thing for Doja Cat. Even she can tell the difference. She said it sounds "super" lol she's 8.

I didn't touch the nulls on my midbasses I knew there was nothing I could do. I did try the one I had in the 400-500 area but nothing really helped so took any boost in that area out. But the centre channel kinda fills it in, won't help the left and right but what ever. I was going to manually adjust gain here as a listen to her music but I can't find any troubled area. I'm leaving it alone. For now... 😃

Lol, he is ass-ish but I think he means well.

I bet he is a super nice guy in person.

I think it's a French thing.

Well, I believe he is French if I'm wrong he will come along and chew me out.

I'll be in the same boat as you. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

He may be Alien 👽

What if you try to add a null in that 250 region to the other side? I ask this, first knowing nothing, but starting to consider if matching L/R as close as possible is more important than hitting the target curve, at least possibly in some bands.

Adding a null sounds like more work. It would probly make it worse. I just leave em be.

Well, it wouldn't be adding a null but matching the dip of the other side.

If you can move the drivers for a better response, that should be the way to go.

If you can't or are unwilling, go for it, you want the response to match on both sides.

There are a lot of anomalies in-car audio and sometimes doing weird things at times yield positive results.

Leave no idea on the table, and don't be afraid to experiment. That's the fun of all this.

Keep a second preset that is a copy of the first to experiment with.

I'm a big believer in just playing with the Eq and crossovers to see what happens.

That's how I have been learning over the past 3 years.

I also document most things I find. I can't explain it scientifically, but I know I can expect a certain result by doing certain things.

Just following a target curve is not enough when it's all said and done, and when I like what I hear; it's a deviation from the curve.

Trial and error is your friend.

Yes..... this tune has like 4 or 5 saved files at different points in the tune just in case I need to go back. They are not pre sets just saved tunes. When I did individual, then the pairs, the the full left and right, before i did everything together, some other ones for the subs. I have a big list of saved tunes on the Helix.

I am seriously diggin this Honda curve.... I may try this in my truck..... although, probably hold it down to a 20db rise to the Sub, and not the 35db...

Overall, it looks pretty good !!!
You should try it. It sounds amazing!! You would think with a 35db rise the bass would overpower the front stage but it doesn't. When I turn it way up the front stage holds its own. I can make my mirrors shake with "stairway to heaven" and "Hotel California" which don't have much bass 😃.

Thank you, you really stepped up to help me out. 🙌

Sooooo, some one mentioned in an other thread about using the Helix bass FX to try n fix the HPF in my factory head unit. Don't want to flood that thread with my junk so ill post it here. So I played with it and took a few mesurment to see what this thing does. Well, I took way more than a few and I probly won't post them all cuz they get kinda redundant.

Base line.... sub with a 65hz LPF with my factory head unit. I won't get much bass past that in my car.

This where I've had it. 3db boost @31hz with the Augmented bass feature. It boosts bass while the volume is down then tapers off without clipping the signal when you turn it up. 😃 I like it like that. I'll leave the unmolested one as reference.

Then I worked my way down in frequency

28hz 3db boost.

25hz 3db boost.

9db boost is kinda gansta so I'll stick with a 6db. Now let's try out the sub expander feature. On the next post.

Now I kept the 6db at 20hz then enabled the sub expander.

Hey look at that it looks better.😃 let's add the front sub.

Let's see what it looks like without the boost.

Wow that's better than expected. Let's add the front stage.

😃 I liked the way it looked.... but the real question was... Do it bump doe!?!?. So I listened to a few songs...... It bumped but it just sounded weird, bass was all over the place. It sounded evil 😈. And not in a good way. The low end was over exaggerated in a not so pleasant to the ears way. so I played with it some more.

I added that 6db back and a HPF at 20hz

Then I listen to more music. Then toggled back and forward with the setting to see where I liked it. I just don't like the Sub expander 😮‍💨 it looked good on REW, but it just dosnt sound right. 🤷🏽 but a 6db boost at 20hz sounded much better than where I had it before.

Here's where I liked it.

Rectangle Slope Plot Font Line

Now let's compare where I liked it VS the the bass response with the DAC

Rectangle Slope Plot Font Line

With my DAC Bass sounds amazing. But it takes a lil effort to get it going vs just jumping in the car and everything automatically doing its thing. Then I loose all my car functions and it's inconvenient. But there's a 13db difference at 20hz. Damn subs play nearly flat with no tunning all the way down to 20hz.

Moral of the story. Hondas factory head unit sux and so does so does the Helix sub expander 😃..... the Augmented bass feature is nice though.

I have a Helix Pro MKII, so I don't have the Bass FX, wish I did.....

anyway, If your finding that your bass is getting a little wonkey...... try reducing the 200hz to 300hz down a bit....

When you reduce it, the bass will sound tighter and punchy'ier, and will also reduce the 'Muddy' Mid-range at bit too.

Ok, I will try that. When ever I get a chance. I have a saved tune where I left off right after tunning the pairs. I may put that same curve to my centre cuz I have it flat From 100hz up

Great informative thread. Well done, @tjk_bail. Honda's gonna make me start up my REW application again. I got frustrated and quit trying last year simply due to lack of basic settings info. Theres plenty out there on adjustments but not on the basic application settings. This certainly helped.

It's an Hertz ml2000.3 it has an fs of 40hz it has .5 cbft sealed. I'm just sending it too much power cuz I like the way it sounds 😃

Specs are always wrong

It needs to be measured , in the box and in the car

I bet fs is much lower

You can sorta get an idea where run a sweep and at the frequency sound all of a sudden gets loud and stays loud is fs (or abouts very near)
