Why are car audio people so d*** snobby? Why is it so hard to get legitimate help?

Something I've yet to ever see. Music industry everyone is more than willing to help. Baseball, same. BMX, same. Car audio???? Ehhhhh..... Hahahaha. I've never seen so many people so quick to bash new comers. When they themselves (more than likely) started like me. Confused and lost, yet willing to learn. But, can't seem to get help, than didn't come from the side of a mouth under slanted eyes. Why is this??? I stopped reading replys on my truck stereo (or my "amp overheating" thread) when I realized that 9 out of 10 people only wanted to bash the brand I chose because(like everything else) I couldn't get help.

Idk a lot of the time I see experienced people stepping up to help people with novice questions. Novices that pretend to know things however, get quickly humbled. Is it snobbery though? Or is it simply the same condescension you’d see from your average professor in response to the Dunning Kruger Award nominee challenging him?

You’ve gotta think, all walks of life frequent diyma -we’ve got 8 figure people contributing here (maybe even 9 with inflation as it is), and we’ve also got dirt poor students trying to patch together something 99% as good as what the 8 figure people are rolling. And it’s possible to do that thanks to the collective wisdom of this community.

The “snobbishness” in the air I’ve come to realize is not that at all. Instead, I would categorize it as apprehensiveness stemming from the fact that you can’t bs your way through anything here. People at the top of their field, people with post grad work done, trolls that can win any debate - whoever - they all still have to yield to those who know car audio.

And let’s not forget that the audio realm is one of the few places where science and belief MUST coexist due to the inherent subjective, individual perception of sound that to date, is still not fully quantifiable. That’s a powerful index of potential incompatibilities, and yet we still do alright here most of the time.

I think it’s normal to feel like it’s snobbery, but once you peel back the layers, you’ll begin to understand that it’s simply a diverse group of people congregating to share wisdom (and gear) in a hobby where bs is commonplace, but quickly exposed and rooted out. IOW, don’t fake the funk, just be honest with what you don’t know and people will go out of their way to help.

I've seen your "overheating" thread.

99% of the members that replied gave you solid advice. As with any thread that is started, you're going to have people that say your equipment is garbage and you need to start over.

Don't ever play the victim card. Hike your skirt up, absorb the knowledge, and contribute.

And really? The "most hated?' WTF do you expect with a user name like that?

I've asked some dumb questions here getting back into car audio...I don't feel I was shot down or turned away because of not knowing much anymore...
Oftentimes people come on here asking a question about X and they get advised to address the problem with W. Frustration and resistance are the common reactions as well as proclamations the no one’s answering their question, while in reality X can’t be properly fixed until W has been changed.

I just read the "my amp is hot" thread, and maybe i missed something, but it seemed like everyone was giving you helpful advise. I didn't see any snobbery or rudeness at all. The only rude comments, came from you in regards to the audio manufacturers ripping people off.

Let me present you snobbery because i haven't found any on your post:

You have poor install with bunch of excessive cables running around. Who knows what else is there🤷‍♂️...I usually bypass those kind of posts where few of them try with all mighty good old "are your grounds good." Funny thing is how you didn't bother to do half decend install but bothered go full snowflake mode here.

My goals are unique... I want to be so loud I p*** off everyone. I wanna overpower any other system around... It's a 2009 f-150 XL Regular Cab. No dsp or eq. Budget...ehhh....lets say 250 to 300 per month can go towards my truck.
I love pulling on a street and watching people go inside or at every red light I come to I watch every car window roll up. I make anyone with "just subs" regret letting me know they had it...

My desire is unique, I want it to be loud. Sure, no teenager in a wife beater ever wanted something cleaver like that…

i bet you cant sit in the cab longer than 10 seconds with the stereo at 50%!!!
I suspect you got this one right

Seriously though - considering the post about wanting to piss everyone off with your stereo, why would you expect any serious help from anyone here? For the most part this isn't that crowd. That's the bunch that makes the general public frown on our little hobby. Most here listen with the windows up :)

You did get legit help in that thread referenced here. For free. Best I can tell, only one person questioned your brand of choice. Make that 2 - WFT is Recoil? And why is there an expectation that the cheapest Chinesium available is going to perform on par with proven gear?

Problem is people come to the net with questions and concerns.

Then won't answer direct questions that will help get the answer they search for.

Then there's the fact people are easily butt hurt these days...

SO HOW ABOUT THEM GROUNDS???😉

My question towards what you quoted from the poster in your response is.....why would you want to sit in something that is punishingly loud? That's young man s*it and even when I was younger I didn't want to damage my hearing to that extent anyway. I love music too much to listen to the p*rn equivalent of stereo systems with 150 db+ setups. I love when music gets down and I love to "feel' music around me, but not like that.

OP, I was just reading through the thread, really both. I think as many advised go back through the install. Focus on the grounds first and make sure all the other wiring is solid. I dont think this is an equipment bash at all. I have been on this forum for a number of years and it has certainly changed. This is more of an sq forum, so certain equipment will come up more often but we still have budget DIY people on here as well like it was when I first joined. I myself have looked at some of the recoil stuff as I think it really coming from a build house for some other brands.
