WTB: Old school CD deck for a commemorative competition install

Greetings everyone:

A good friend of mine by the name of Joel Martin died last fall. His wife asked me to come over this week to clean out his old car stereo stuff. I uncovered enough gear to make a killer period-correct old school competiton system. I will be building a commemorative installation and competing it in his name. I have seven flawless PPI Art Series amplifiers, a flawless set of EQT's, heck, I even have the original gold Streetwires blocks, inline fuse holders, and even original Street Wires speaker wire, all specific to the 1993-1994 period. I need a deck. Something that would have been considered super high-end for 1993-1994. Perhaps a Sony CDX-900, Nakamichi CD-700, Alpine 7909 or 7915, Eclipse 413 or 415. The only problem is that it needs to be in extraordinary condition. Anyone got anything? I have cash, and a banquet table full of possible trade items from Joel's stash (MVC, 24XS, PPI processors, Image Dynamics IDQ-10's, etc., etc., etc.)

E-mial me please. I have a bad habit of not checking threads or PM's (especially PM's).

The only deck I'd have to offer is about 2 years too new, I'm afraid. I wish I had held on to my new old stock Denon just a little longer.
What a great way to honor your friend, Scott. Good luck with the build.

Agreed, wow. I am truly touched. Please update this thread when you can!
How much are you looking to spend? I may know of a 7915 for sale.... very nice condition last I remember. Let me know what your budget is and I will contact the party and see if it is still for sale and if so, I will get some detailed pics for ya.
I got a minty 7909J

Got a pioneer premier M88 also but it rejects cds
Thanks guys:

I need to clear out a few legacy projects before I begin this car. I haven't been this excited about a build in several years. It'll be all analogue using products no newer than 1993 (well, RCA's might have to be some new old-stock Esoteric Audio Zero Noise jobbers from the late 90's, unless I can find some new old-stock Phoenix or Esoteric RCA's). The system currently planned is an old school deck with changer, an Audio Control line driver (LOL) to a pair of 24XS, to a pair of EQT's, to six Precision Power Art Series amplifiers (seven if I can find one more mint A600). The speakers won't be ca. 1993, but that'll be the only thing!

Thanks for the multiple responses. I found a BNIB kit on eBay last night...an old tape deck (LOL) with a 5952Z changer. Got it for $400.00 with a BNIB Alpine amp. Legacy old school stuff for the win! But if I could find an original 7909, or the Alpine kit with the outboard DAC ca. 1993, I'd be all about that as well.

The last thing I really, really want is a mint or new old-stock JL Audio 15W5, or a trio of 12W5's. I'd love an old JL Audio iso- bi- or tri-plate for the subs too. It'd be period perfect if I could find some minty JL subs.

Man, Scott Sorry I missed this post. I have a few Eclipse ECD units. They are in near mint condition. Had a nice ECD-414 or ECD-415 for you.

Since Joel was apparently a big PPI fan, why not go with the old school flat-coned PPI subs? IE:

PPI PRO 12" SUBWOOFER
good suggestion ^^^^

those flat cones i hear sounded superbbbbb

It's been awhile since I've heard one, but as I recall they were fantastic. I'd love to grab one if I could find a buyer for my subs and box.

To the threadstarter, good luck. This is truly an epic way to honor your friend. I hope to see photos when you are done.
When did the flat subs come out? I recall later in the 90's, no? I'm looking for subs in the 1993 era...M&M Godfathers, Punch, JL Audio W5 series, etc.

Thanks everyone for the entusiastic support. His brother in law stepped up today and said he'll build anything the car needs out of metal, since he works at a laser-cutter, CNC, and machine shop. That will definetely come in handy. This car will definetely be at the 2010 INAC Finals in March, and photos will start to flow as the buid progresses in mid-summer.

If anyone in the greater ATL area wants to lend a hand when the build begins, I'd sure love to have ya. Even if you didn't know Joel.

Scott
Check your email. Thank you.
There were a couple of Godfathers on ebay, there's still one up there now. Personally I'd go with the original Rockford Power series subs, should be circa 1993-1994 or so. I do believe the PPI piston subs were 1996 or so, Alma set her record in '98 using those subs in the Bronco.

One of my favorite 90's pieces was Rockford's Symmetry Epx2 system, though I believe it was a 95ish piece.

Bringing back good memories. Good luck with the build, be sure to post pics.
Scott I have some freshly reconed vintage JBL 2225H 15s, the pro audio drivers. Would be wicked bad-ass in an Aperiodic ;) Interested?

I bet that's right, just checked my pair of 12's and they are probably '96 models (s/n 960xxxxx). They look older than that :(

...

BTW I'm not the guy selling those above, and can't vouch for him or anything, I just like the subs and they were a convenient link.
PRO are from the end of the ART era, not the start of the buyout era. they would be correct enough, as arts go all the way to 96.

The newer ones look very similar but are not nearly as excursion limited as the old PPI pro12.

What you need is a PG Cyclone and one art a600. then your HAT drivers from 60 up.

Sounds like a good plan.

RE: JBL subs...Steve Head, maybe. Tell me more at [email protected].
