JBL 1500GTi in 4cubes tuned @ 30hz powered by a Proton D275. Bliss.

I have yet to come even close to that perfection. And I have used some really nice ****.
The absolute best bass I have ever heard in a car was a pair of isobaric 1500GTi's in 3.5 cubes tuned at 37Hz.

That was 25 years ago.

I have not heard better bass since.

My favorite sub set up I've had is 2 12"SQLs sealed on 4k. Next in line is my Brahma X 12" in the Adire ported box. After that would be 🙈 the Skar VFX 12" lol that shows you how many SQ set ups I've had. I've had an abundance of subs through out the years but none ever hit the right spot. But alot stayed cuz I had already bought and installed.

"SQ is great, but sometimes nostalgia is greater" - @ErinH
Indeed 😅

I stand by it though.

Those 1500Gti's, in that large of a volume (effectively 7 cubes) had texture and detail I have never heard since.

From my military grade sound days.

8 x Danley TH221 in Double stacks across the front of the stage with 8 x Danley TH812 on each side under the flied mains. (They weren't exactly like the ones sold today but same principle.)

Sixteen 21" tapped horns and One Hundred Twenty Eight 12" tapped horn drivers all on enough power to push them easily into power compression.

Capable of pushing 150dB sustained from 18-150Hz (-3dB) at the console 300' away. (That was the contract requirement at least - the system would do way more than that but we never got to push the limit cause it was causing structural damage.) The amplifier stacks had 3-stage cooling fans but never even got out of stage 1 during the live events.

As the 18yo junior member of the staff... Part of my assignment was doing driver check and fastener tightening walk throughs during sound check confirming all enclosures were active - vision blurring, clothes flapping, take your breath away stuff and the Staff Sargent trying to push 20-60Hz sweeps at them hard enough to make you tap out.

Once setup and tuned we rarely ran the system over 105-110dBA slow average at the console but even at that level... The absolutely effortless dynamics and fluid like bottom octave bass during live performances was unforgettable and due to being used in open air venues there wasn't any of the chaos acoustically from room modes. Pure bliss and the genesis of my bottom feeder bass obsession.

I've come close to that a few times during studio installs and one over the top Chevy Suburban install but, as stated earlier, nostalgia is a seductive liar.

I loved my JBL 1500 GTI in ported enclosure back in the day, but there were some other subs that performed really good for me like KEF B200, Focal WX27 Audiom, TREO SSX 12,22,

One audio 15” x2 in a small hatchback vented to the outside world in true IB 🥰
Man, this is SO bad @$$ ! I don't even need to ask how deep it digs :) ....or, how efficient it is ! Hey, if you haven't heard this on your setup, you should try it ;)
Im sure their are better places to get it from, than YouTube.... But the recording on Amazon music has bass below 20 hz.
Sounds pretty good on with my system... but mine goes away quick at like 25hz....

I was waiting for it to drop but it never did, it’s very low level if it has 20hz… I’m 3.00 in and bored… I hope it gets better! It didn’t…

try this

Francine thirteen - Queen Mary 🥰

or for really low and windy

busy signal - therapy 😎

Interesting. I'm not sure If I have anything in my collection lower. Certainly gives my 18" max excursion, but not being able to hear it at all. Only a little wind. Its not a constant low frequency signal, if thats what you were listening for.
Okay, I'll try the track you mentioned... Found it :) Downloaded. Will try this ASAP.

Now wait..... So even before I got back to my truck, I played that Queen Mary track in my car... With only my single 8" sub, tuned to 35hz, and it was able to play the bass in that very well ??? I was expecting it to barely catch only the upper parts of the bass notes... But unless it's a very wide frequency bass note... and it was only a single frequency bass note, throughout the entire song... And that note seems to be like 30-35hz. If your going to tell me it's lower, maybe much lower, then I guess my little 8 in sub can play way below 30hz... But I doubt it.
Now, the track I posted for you, definitely has changing bass frequencies of which my little 8 inch sub does okay on the higher notes, but on some of the lower notes, it just misses them, and those are the notes that my truck does play, but are too low to really hear.

I like hatchback bass but I disagree with less rattles.
The least rattling setup up I've found so far is down firing in a modern crew cab truck. The absolute only rattle I have is my rearview mirror. I'd be the happiest person in the world if I could make it stop. It's location is center stage and it horribly distracting. I'm tempted to rip it down and leave it down.
The only rattle I have is my rear sliding glass window. It’s a crew cab Ram. I’m thinking about having it removed and replaced with a single pane. I use a cleverly placed piece of cardboard for competitions. So far so good, but what if my hack falls out in the middle of judging?! 😱

Best sub stage has got to come from the front... Either from a frunk, or the doors, or IB into the wheel wells.

Because from the rear, No matter how much timing you adjust, it might sound like it's coming from front, but you still feel it hit weird... Because it has to go through you first.

My next substage will be my best .... 2 - 8's in each front door of my huge boxtruck. Sealed or ported, i dont know, but they will be in front of me already, and for an audio-phycho like me, that wins half my battle already.

Oddly my current front sub and rear sub combination doesn’t have this effect, it feels like it’s in front full stop, first time I’ve got it to do what it’s doing
