Zapco people "Sig Ref" ?

For the Zapco people, My Studio 300X amp end cap says to ground the “Sig Ref” the vehicle chassis, the manual says ground to the head unit chassis. My Studio 500 says use the radio chassis.
Is the outside portion of an RCA cable end the same as using the head unit chassis?

You need to run a signal ref ground from the terminal of the amp to the chassis of the radio. Not chassis ground.

thanks. Is the radio chassis ground different than the outside of the RCA cable, which is how I have had it connected for the 500 for the last 6 years or so .

The manual for the 300X is why I decided to ask. Only the 300 has this screened on it, my 500 doesn't.
