Anyone have issues with glare?

I was wondering if anyone has had issues with glare on their HU's?

I own a 2014 Civic and the glare on the factory HU was terrible. With the sunroof shade open, the factory HU display was invisible. It was a little better with the shade closed but still difficult to read. Not to mention the small soft keys on the screen. Nothing worse than trying to press one button and hitting another because they are hard to see and touch just right.

I have tried several new HU's like Pioneer and Kenwood etc. all compatible with the Honda Car side features. And every single unit I tried still had issues with glare.

Since my local shop was so kind to allow me to see the HU's in the car before purchasing, only to realize it's really the design of the car, they suggested I look at something different. A marine HU, well, it works! That screen is hella bright and easily dimmed at night.

I am hoping to find a HU that has some significant glare reduction capabilities, anyone have any suggestions?

I forget the brand, had it on there so long, but on my Nexus, I just use an anti-glare matte screen protector, works pretty well. Might be worth grabbing some cheap anti-glare screen protectors from eBay and cutting them to fit the head unit.

Should only cost a couple dollars, so even if they don't work you are not out much.

Yeah I tried a few different ones and they do help with the glare but NOT enough, I still have to close the sun roof. Even more frustrating is the glare shields play merry hob with the touch screen buttons. Not to mention I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE TOUCHSCREEN BUTTONS IN A CAR!!!!!!

I feel your pain. Try a matte/anti-glare screen protector as suggested.

Most of the late model Subaru's Head Units have a very large, flat, trapozoidal-shaped acrylic face plate that covers that entire section (not just the display screen).

The entire panel is angled upwards to perfectly catch and reflect the sun. It's just a horrible design. I've done a few of the advertising photo shoots for these vehicles and it was a PITA to light and photograph as well. And I've driven a few of these cars on fun, curvy roads through canyons where the sun flickered through the trees, and the reflections off of this HU panel were very distracting. The Automotive designers these days tend to go for a clean, flowing look, even if it compromises usability. I don't get it.

And as others have mentioned, if you have a light-colored interior, sunlight on the seats or door panels, etc will reflect into the screen. If you're not opposed to the look, try using solid color black or dark grey matte surface seat covers on the front seats.

Just an example from the Subaru Outback. (Not my pic)...

I will say one thing about this JL "Boat" unit, I still haven't found a antenna adapter to go from a standard antenna connecter to a Motorola style..........Yeah, I still get good AM and FM reception!!

I will catch all of the Philly sports broadcasts now!!

I drive a 02 civic coupe and the dash design with hu is tilted up , bought a excelon 6904s this past week and glare isnt realy that bad , with the single dins i had you could forget about seeing the disply during the day . But like above posts , anti glare screen would probably help , OR tinting the windows would do too , might as well since most of us spend serious money on hu's , investing a bit more on window tint makes sense .
