I've had both and there is no real difference I could tell, but others may disagree

It is kinda what I was hoping for. Seen some decent deals and wanted to try them out.

Like you I was researching the hell out of these things because it almost seemed too good to be true, right? I have my install going down next week in my Caddy and I "settled" on a good pair of Volvo Dyns instead of spending more on a pair of DLS Iridiums or Rainbow ILW's.

I actually emailed and talked to an Dynaudio engineer about what these things were. Basically the same thing you've learned in your research: they're from the MW180 family and they were offered as upgrades for the volvo systems of those years produced. Total systemic specs should be in line with the MW180. I'll have 2 channels bridged off my pdx-v9 (200watts) going to each driver. I'm expecting they'll sound very close to a mw180 or mw182.

I'm going to guess that these things are the value deal of the century if they perform as well. No worries, I'll shout from the mountain top if they do

 

They were part of the SC-901 upgrade from Volvo and came with an MD140 and MD101

 

Very awesome. Thank you guys. Looking forward to ordering some of the 9" midbass drivers to try out and eventually change over from a 2way setup to a 3way.

 

What about the similarities of the VW Dyns to regular production and why arent more here using them?

 

I have also used the Volvo Dynaudios, and love them. They are the same as any of the stamped frame versions Dynaudio sells. I still have a bunch of them, all sizes including MD140 dome mids and the 9" woofers, which are MW180's. If you are looking for some, PM me.

I used a set of the MW180 in the doors of my VW Touareg with very good results. Great stuff.

I also have some of the 6.5's, which are MW160GT. Thos I might hang on to. They look amazing, and would love to use them.
