I just bought a set of the Focal ES 165kx2 midbass drivers and tweeters to run active in my system. The tweeters came with the housing and grill attached and im trying to figure out how to remove them from the housing, looked on focal website and the online manual but couldn't find anything, also looked on this forum. Does anyone know how to remove them? Also I want to install capacitors on the tweeters to protect them. I've read some threads on here but im still a little confused on which ones to get. I called Focal America and talked to the tech guy and he told me to use a "10 micro??? farad" capacitor, FYI, these are 2 ohm tweeters. I just want to make sure i understand what this is and i get the right ones

thanks

The front grill can be removed, by sticking a very small flat-headed screwdriver into the edge, and prying outwards. It is just press-fitted into the housing.
As far as the rest of the tweeter; it is also press fitted into the metal housing, and can be pried-out with a small flat head screwdriver.

Here's a good video to watch. The guy is even using your exact tweeter for his demo. His calculation recommends a 15 microfarad capacitor.

The Focal guy was assuming that you are crossing over at 'the factory spec', which is 3000Hz, using a 12dB crossover slope. This works-out to a: 10 microfarad cap.

10 - 20 microfarad (as mentioned above) is typically if you want to actually use the capacitor for crossover purpose. Which you don't.

You are simply using the capacitor for protection (and using a DSP for active crossover). The popular size for car audio is: 47 microfarad:

The overall system is 2ohm. But the tweeters themselves are 4ohm rated.

Jimmydee,

Thanks for the info. So i called the place I bought the speakers from ("Pacific Stereo" they are in Riverside California, i've bought all my stereo equipment from them over the years, great guys and really good prices, plus free shipping) and the guy told me to leave the grills on and place my thumbs along the edge of the grills and put my fingers on the housing and push the tweeter out, they said it's not easy as they are press fitted in, but it should work, we shall see.
