hi guys, i just saw a video that showed someone installing an 8inch sub in the front door of a same model car i own.

i didnt know that was even possible without lots of modifying but the video showed very little modifying would be needed.

now my question is should i do the same?
any drawbacks to puting something like that in the door up front?
i would assume the positives are more bass but since its not in a box is that a good idea to do since its such a larger driver vs the stock size of 6.5 inches.

the other option i have heard of is an over size 6.5 which appears to be a 7 inch midwoofer.

so which sould it be,
7inch mid woofer
or
8inch woofer.
both would have separate tweeters.

I have 8" woofers in my doors as part of a 3way. Before adding a sub they were playing with no HP filter on them. They sounded very good but all the pressure they created in the doors at the lower (<50hz) definitely "loosened" up all the mechanicals (window assembly, door handles) inside the door... I would fear long term affects.

As stated earlier, the only "issue" running a 8 in a two way set up is you need a tweeter than can play low enough to match up to them. I ran a pair of 8" KEF B200 SP1284s in the doors of my old T-bird. They were 4ohm drivers that KEF used in the K140 2-way home speakers. I was running active and paired them with a set of Seas H1396 1" Textile Dome Tweeters crossed at 2500hz (24dB). With a 100w to the tweeters,,, they could get a little gravelly at extreme volume but with less than maximum wattage they sounded pretty good.

I'm running a pair of NVX XSPTW (discontinued) tweeters now that have NO problem playing down to 2K. They're the car audio version of the SB Acoustics SB29RDCN-C000-4, which are very reasonably priced for their performance.

The 8" ScanSpeak 4-ohm Discovery woofer plays high enough that you could could easily run it and the SB29s in a 2-way set up. I've installed that combo in a couple friend's pickup doors.

If I could get a decent set of 8s in my current car's door without a lot of modifications, I'd be running them for sure.

I would like a little clarification. Are you looking to run an 8" "SUB"woofer or a midbass driver? Both very different in the jobs they do. Your post originally started out stating a "sub" and them seem to change to comparing to midbass drivers.

sorry, i am still comparing the two. i was going to still leave it as an option to do they typical 6.5inch midrange or an upgraded 8inch subwoor in the front door. not sure if a sub in the front door will sound good or horribly bad. its just an option i just found out i can do.
