if the vehicle's new enough and has a factory sharkfin gps antenna? get an adapter to use that. then you don't have to contend with the dashboard, interior, etc.

it can still take a while to sync compared to other devices like phones, which have cellular, wifi, and their own gps radios already online to get location faster.

i use the factory sharkfin+adapter for my siriusxm module, works fine. my car didn't have gps from the factory though.

i put my gps puck below the dashboard but above the top of the center vents. basically anywhere that's not covered by metal but has a good view of the sky should work.

 

I would have used oem but the instructions repeated over and over again not to use the factory gps. It seems to be working where it’s at in the windshield aside from taking 90 seconds or so to lock on the signal. Once it’s connected though it doesn’t drop the signal like it did under the dash. I’m going to leave it for a few weeks and if it doesn’t give me any more problems will just leave it be
