is there anyone here that has any experience with both the Image Dynamics IDMAX V.3 subs and the V.4 subs ?

What are the differences ?
Are the v4s IDMAX subs just as good as the older v3s ?

So I should use v3 parameters with a v4 IDMAX.....thats just lovely considering I already planned my box out and such.....back to the drawing board.

Majik I have not forgotten about the recones....just handling 3 million things at a time right now in case you were wondering.

Back to the subject matter, I spoke with someone at ID today about the specs and he did verify that they were being tested in China due to not having the proper testing equipment in house because of China being a big source of their actual manufacturing of many other products they make. The actual equipment for the testing is in China itself and the actual subs are still handmade here in the states. He told me the new T/S parameters will be posted within a month, give or take a little I assume.

So back in April 2016 I commented that ID was supposed to update their parameters after they sent the subs to be tested in China....Fast forward to now and they still have yet to update them..... That to me is just a show of poor business tactics and leading customers on. Think I may be in the market for new subs soon based on that alone.

2.5" was the v1 iirc and then they went to a 2" coil from v2 on, that's why they say that the v4 recones will fit v2 and v3 and if you look at the physical dimensions they are the virtually the same so in theory they will work but no one at ID can give you an answer if the voice coil on the v4 recone will sit in the gap the same as a v3 original so that the BL Curve would match and the difference in the mounting cutout diameter v4 = 10.5" vs v3 = 9.6" for a 0.9" difference (will the v4 cone hit the basket on the rearward stroke?) You might get more information from the ID Facebook group (Image Dynamics Usa. a group for all ID fans. [Group by Backyard Installers])

The deal with the specs was that when the v4 came out there was a huge uproar when they were way off from spec and enough so that tuning/alignment within the enclosure was way off and someone plugged the v2 driver in WinISD into the enclosure that the v4 was sitting in and the results were "much" closer to the results that the OP was getting and from then on the suggestion to use the v2 specs has stuck.

Agreed that it is truly a shame that such a great driver and company has fallen by the wayside.

v4 OD = 11.04" vs 11.063"
v4 MD = 5.8" vs 5.75"

Thank you for that information. That is for the idq? I have a pair of idqs V2. But I have 3 idmax v3d4 that I am going to be using. They are all mint condition but I am having a hard time finding a fourth. Also was wondering about just using a v4 and if worse came to worse using a v4 reconed kit.
I am a member of that fb group. And have posted wtb in there a few times. But I do my best to stay as far away from fb as possible. It's a disgusting place..

Agreed on the Farsebook thought...

Compare what's on the IDMax10D4v3 sheet to the specs for the v4:
Image

If they are as close as the IDQ then I would be willing to give it a try as I'm sure that mechanically the v4 would fit in the v3 basket but again, no guarantee on how it will sound.

Earlier in this thread it shows the t/s they released for the v4 IDMAX and the fs was 27 hz. Apparently they were pulled off a completely fresh driver and people were told to use the t/s for the v3 while ID sent a driver to China for them to pull actual t/s specs. So I guess they were building subs without knowing the specs? They were still being hand assembled in the US.

They definitely had some great products and I know they didn’t sound like that on accident! I’ve only heard the IDMAX on 1 occasion and it was 2 15s sealed on a kicker 1200.1 and they absolutely slammed!

Am I crazy or did I read that the guy behind Steven’s audio worked at ID at one point?

Eric Stevens @Eric Stevens founded Image Dynamics in 1992.

There's also Matt Borgardt and many others involved: https://www.diymobileaudio.com/threads/i-am-back-at-image-dynamics.430275/

That was kinda the point I wanted you to see. The information is so wishy washy that it’s kinda a crap shoot. They did mention that the recone will fit everything except the v1.

The classified section is a great place for stuff like this. Most people won’t proactively list something like that because of the cost of shipping. If you’re willing to pay for the ride, I’m sure you’ll find one! And if you don’t, 3 10s will still get dddooooowwwnnnnn

Love image dynamics! I have this component set that I got from the guy who sold me the 2nib idmax 10s for too good of a deal to pass up. Also pictured is a partial list of the tweeters I have. Figured I could find a set that would match decently in there. Or maybe that I would stumble across some in my searches.

So them sounding so good was far from an accident!

The first car audio system I ever heard was 2 sealed diamond audio d6 12s in a little celica and it made my vision blur. After that I heard nothing but kicker or worse for years. The “best” system in town was 2 15” L7s ported in the backseat of a convertible.

it was LOUD, but so was the $130 dual 12” prefab bandpass box in my buddies blazer…

I eventually heard the 2 15” IDMAXs in a sealed box and for the first time since those diamonds my vision went blurry, and i finally realized what everything I’d been hearing was missing!

Go check out Steven’s Audio if you’d like to see what the guy who started ID is up to now! He has had a HUGE impact on the SQ scene with his horn-loaded compression drivers.
Not many people run them, and far less know how to properly install/tune/integrate them.

Prior to my experience on DIYMA, I’d only ever seen a HLCD in my PA speakers, or the random chuchero box. I couldn’t believe people were using them for SQ! I have yet to hear a real SQ setup, let alone his horns, but someday….

Just a free bump after catching up on some image dynamics reading and a question.

Has anyone reconed the idq8 and if so did the supplied shims fit?

I have to recone my idqv4d4 subs and the recone kits came with 4 shims that are too wide to fit through the basket holes. They are also 15 thousandths / .38 mm thick.

The ID phone number is inop and none of their email addresses allow me to message them. Either I'm blocked or their site is wigging out.

My subs have been great for several years and finally one overheated and started rubbing a little and the other's surround was damaged by cargo area fod, so I decided to recone them.
