Any information on these? are they the newest models?

The older models 955 ( no active crossovers DSP), X997 not significant difference that I can find compared to the X998

Looks like the retail price is close, and the 958 can be found for $70.00 less and the only difference looks like it is 6 extra EQ bands and 30HZ LP and HP both have a decent DSP for 3 way full active

The only reason I do not choose the New JVC arsenal and the Clarion cz702 is not being able to play AAC files through a flash drive or CD, the JVC plays them on CD's but not Flash drives. I like the extra USB port on the Kenwood 958 and I can get it $20-30 cheaper than an Alpine CDeHD148BT (under $170.00), my price point if I could spend more I would go with the 80PRS.

I do not believe the Kenwoods have active crossovers. If you are taking care of that with the MS amps or by some other means, they will probably work just fine.

From Kenwood site. It looks like only the the 898 is capable of a 3 way active if you look on pages 20 and 21, it is disappointing that Crutchfield lists the 958 with the tweeter active pass. However the 958 not having the tweeter high point xoover active pass it has some Decent DSP it has -6,12,18,24 db slopes for front , rear and sub, front channels and many crossover points speaker sizes, Time aligment etc it is on the manual on those 2 pages.

The HU I have now older JVC arsenal has very limited xover points, more than anything I need one that plays AAC files on a flasdrive and mine can't.

But now between the 958 and alpine 148Bt it is hard for me to decide because they will cost me the exact same money, it is a call between an extra usb port with the Kenwood 958, only one with the Alpine.

Which one will sound better?, Alpine has a better EQ, parametric and 2 extra bands.

The KDC-X998 is no active capable. It has an adjustable "shelving filter" for the front components. Essentially this is an adjustable tweeter attenuation. You select the frequency and level of attenuation above said frequency.

Between the KDC-BT958HD and the CDE-HD148BT, I would probably go with the Alpine. We have been very happy with my wife's 147, save for being a bit weak on the iPod/iPhone charging. The time alignment and parametric EQ both work pretty well.
