OOOH!! Mekede DUDU7 android headunit. I think that I am going to upgrade

After seeing this video, I think I am going to grab one of these MEKEDE DUDU7' s for a very specific reason. I want the ability to use it as a display to input the video from my laptop. Essentially, I can have a laptop or a cheaper surface pro hidden in the vehicle somewhere with a USB C cable allowing me to use the head unit as the display. I can basically have an external keyboard and touchpad to do thinks like tuning the Holley ecm and using the Helix DSP software right from the headunit. Hell, I could even go on a road trip with my son and have him be able to play playstation on the road! I almost pulled the trigger on a Mekede M6pro for the HDMI input but I am glad I waited because the new models are so much nicer and I can get a larger screen. I think I may go from my 11.6in Joying to the 13.3 in MEkede because that is the max size that the Blazer can fit in the space.

I know this may seem silly to some and I know that there are those out that bad mouth ANDroid headunits but i have been using them for a few years now and they have been so much better than the old days of headunits. I have never had the desire to go back to spending twice as much for less features. My original reason for switching was to have optical outputs and now these flagship android head units have really started releasing feature packed products. Joying, Teyes and Mekede are like the Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer and Sony of the old days.

I have one, and generally think it's a great value. I am using the optical output to my M4 DSP, and I'm having a couple issues with output that I'm trying to chase down. The digital outputs are not "full volume" so you'd need to increase the input gain on your DSP. When I do that, I'm seeing clipping and distortion earlier than expected when playing music through the Tidal app - but not seeing any distorition when I play test sweeps (which are locally downloaded files.)

I did make sure that Tidal didn't have "volume normalization" or anything else running. Unfortunately I struggled to find any files on Tidal that I could use to test a 0db output for clipping.

I tried the USB audio out, using a DOUK U2. It was louder, and got a true 96k out. The biggest issue was that the android head unit would only send some media out via USB, other apps seemed to be muted. So only VLC (for movies/media) and music apps like Tidal worked - but I had no audio output over the USB when I played bluetooth files from my phone. I recall some issues with the phone app as well, but I can't recall exactly what the issue was right now.

I ended up returning the U2 and switching back to the dudu7 optical out port, and I'll live with the low output.

Overall I still think it's great and recommend it.

Great input. Would you be willing to test the usb input? I have a surface pro and want to plug usb c to the Mekede usb c and as long as I can see the surface pro display on the screen like a computer monitor, I think it will meet my want/need. Obviously having audio will also be helpful too. Most of what I want to do does not require audio though.

I am going to bet that your audio issue may be hidden in the device settings. Many android devices have a ton of flexibility but the settings can be buried in the menus.

They usually have a bezel that fits your exact car but my vehicle is 1972 and the other is a 1976 so I do custom mounts that I fabricate.

I am not sure this unit can do anything my Joying cant do, except this thing can play the hires audio without downsampling. Thats a decent price tag for that one thing. Ill need to see some youtube reviews to see if I want the upgrade down the road. good thing is if I do get it, I can put the Jying in my truck, and then move my pioneer from my truck to our suburban which is still using the factory radio from 2006.

They claim 96/192 for optical & coax. I'm not aware that anyone has put it to the test. I remain skeptical of that. I have the 512/12 model, but it'll probably be a couple months before I can get it installed. I will be running optical, coax, & USB to the DSP so I can try them all. Now, if their claims are true & they have actually been able to implement it, I'm not sure of how I'd be able to verify what sampling frequency was arriving at the DSP. I got this HU for several other reasons, and just view higher sampling as a bonus.

Yeah, it will be great. I want as many photos as posssible. Blacks beside sharp whites reviel light bleeding. Which is big weekness of QLED (IPS) displays.
Just black screen with white text will be great.
I don't need it for movies. Only static pictures (menus) but with decent "black" for night ride. I hate that grey glowing rectangle (screen). 😲
Also photo of screen when car is off is easier to make. That part where display meats frame (area of 10cm). (y):)
Thanks in advance for photos. 🙏
