I have some runs of speaker wire that I need to make a little longer in my car. Don't want to buy new wire so would splicing cause a real degradation in sound quality or should it be ok? I was going to use butt connectors but didn't know if anyone had better ways of doing it? Thanks.

I wouldn't solder. I think a strong crimp job is more secure against pulling and tugging. That's not to say that a good solder job won't be effective too...but soldering is harder to do RIGHT.
But, but andy, didn't you read the Why don't you compete thread and see how much my 1000$ a yard cables make a difference...but but they dont have any splices...it would interupt my deionized ions from flowing in the right direction on my single direction peice of copper...but but...THPPPPPPP!!!
