Upgrading speakers in Audi A3 8Y with Audi Sound System

Hi,

I have an Audi A3 8Y with the upgraded Audi Sound System. However, I am a bit disappointed in the sound quality. I recently installed a subwoofer (Skar Audio SVR-8) with a dedicated amplifier for the subwoofer, which already greatly improved the overall sound, but it still feels like there is something missing. I will be installing some alubutyl in the doors and am considering to also replace the speakers in the front doors and A-pillars.

While the Audi Sound System has a DSP, unfortunately it is not possible to make adjustments to it, so I won't be able to fine tune the sound. I don't plan to upgrade this amplifier, so I am stuck with the power and DSP settings of the original amplifier. How would you go about finding suitable speakers? Making custom speaker adapters etc. is not a problem. Therefor I am planning to use 6.5" / 165mm speakers in the doors.

In my previous car I installed the Focal F-PS165 along with a DSP to fine tune the sound to my liking. For this upgrade I initially was considering the Audison Prima APK 165, since it seems like many people upgraded their Audi Sound System in the A4 and A5 with them. But I would be willing to spend a bit more money (~250€) if I can get something even better. Next I was considering the Hertz Mille PRO MPK-165.3 PRO, however I saw some reviews were people complained that the tweeters were a bit harsh sounding, which I don't like. I guess I like more of a warm sound that fills the whole car. So what would be your approach to pick the right speakers in this situation?

(I just realized that the stock speakers seem to be 8", so I could fit even bigger speaker in the doors. However there are fewer options and even fewer reviews about speakers this size)

Knowing that the original speakers are hooked up to a DSP, I assume I don't need a crossover for the midwoofer and tweeters - and I guess it might actually harm if I connect a crossover, since the crossover frequence might be different to the one set in the DSP. Is this assumption correct?

After realising that the original speakers are 8" I was considering the Eton POW20+, which are 8" 3 Ohm Speakers. However after removing the door card today, I noticed that the original speakers are already 2 Ohm 40W. Going up to 3 Ohm means I would lose ~1/3 of power coming to the speaker. I usually don't go above 70% volume, so I guess this might still be okay. But I assume this will also cause the audio to be unbalenced, since both the center channel and the rear speakers will still ouput the same volume as before.
Or will the perceived difference in volume be not as dramatic, since it is logarithmic?

Are there any good quality 8" 2 Ohm component speakers available? At 2 Ohm I can only find subwoofers so far. Or should I go with smaller 6.5" speakers, since there are more options available?

Yes, I replaced the speakers in the front doors and the tweeters in the A-Pillars with the Eton POW 20+.
They have a slightly higher impedance (3 Ohm instead of 2 Ohm) so they are a little bit more quiet and therefor the center channel is a bit more pronounced, since it is slightly louder in comparison, but overall I think it was totally worth it. I made my own 3D printed adapters for the speakers, but I think you can also buy matching ones.
