Alpine PXA-H701 question

I don't have enough post to put a link into this thread but I see the H701 is labeled Optical inputs. Then right under that it says rca inputs. I assume it only takes optical and not an analog signal? Correct? Do they make a converter to go from analog to optical/digital so I can go into the unit.:(

I have the Kenwood DNX7100 with all the options: bluetooth, ipod, tv tuner, backup camera and don't really want to change headunits.

It does both. Optical is via an optical cable, and analog is via the ai-net cable.

Optical is the dvd/cd drive only.

Analog would be for any ai-net controlled device such as iPod.

Edit: didn't catch the last part...so this may not be useful to you.

FWIW, to control the h701, you HAVE to have an Alpine controlling device such as the c701 controller, or alpine headunit like the w200/w205/d310/etc.

it can accept rca inputs. i ran mine like that for a while.

you should download the manual from alpine's site and go over it. that's what i always do when i have a question b/c crutchfield sucks for answers and it takes forever to get in touch with alpine.

the processor does accept both

I know I have to have the controller but will I have to have a converter to go from digital to analog, or will it take the analog signal?

With the controller, the inputs still go into the H701, correct? It doesn't change the need for the optical inputs from the headunit?

you can run rca cables from any deck to the input on the 701. when you do that, there's a volume knob on the controller as well to do level matching. when you use rca cables, you don't need the ai-net cables, as the deck you're using is converting the digital cd signal to analog internally.

i hope that makes sense...

Thank you. Yes it makes sense. So I am looking on crutchfield what if any cables or connections do I need if I plug into from my headunit analog rca cables?

And am I correct that I can run a 4 way system with it? I have the Dynaudio 362 3-way with a JL console stealthbox with 13w3. Want to run the system active.

Bart

Sorry for all the questions...

Thanks, I guess answers all of my questions and I most likely will be buying one with the controller soon. Unless someone gives me additional ideas.
I found them on ebay for 177.99 plus 19.99 shipping and 339 plus 25 shipping.

My D310 book is a little vague on that, but I don't know why you wouldn't want to use the optical input - it makes life so much easier having less cables and all. But I would think the AiNet is all you need to pass the analog signals if that's the route you go, that's how my ipod, sirius, etc all gets there.

Only radio, interfacing & other analog signals are transmitted via Ai-net.

You need both optical & ai-net to properly do the job.

As for the D310... well, you have an external brain, so running ai-net can be made easy, especially when the brain is mounted right beside the H701 processor like mine is :)

If you are running an analog signal into the H701, you will only need to bring one set to the processor from the source, not 3.

But anyways, if you have optical capability... easy decision.
