What are the main differences between the Arc PS8 and PS8 Pro? I researched both, but they appear to have the same specifications. Both have 8 channel output, coax+SPDIF, sampling rate, PSC compatibility. Only thing is the OEM integration on the Pro? Do they both use the same software versions?

The pro is newer so has slightly better processors, signal to noise ratio, distortion, dacs, etc. The regular ps8 is still really good. The pro also has things like all pass filters and a more advanced mixer that could do l-r rear fill among other things I don’t know about.

PS8 has opamp sockets so you can roll different opamps to tailor the sound to your liking if youre into that kinda thing. PS8pro has more time alignment available. Its like 15ms on Ps8 and 20ms on Pro if I remember right.
PS8 is a solid processor especially with the ability to change opamps. Unfortunate side is software is no longer supported. So there are not more updates.

PS8pro has a brand new Arc DNA update coming soon which incorporates several new features like ability to input distance measurements and it auto calculates time alignment and several other features

Ps8pro is built around the 5532 opamp. Its designed around using that chipset. I've had one modded by ARc with the 4562 and it measured Worse than the 5532. Theyve done their own experiments with various others with similar results.
Having had both, a Stock Pro sounded better than my Ps8 with 4562. and I prefer the GUI better. its more intuitive while being somewhat similar.

I dont know when or if a 12ch DSP is coming. I'm not sure there is REALLY a need for it. Its kinda like, I'd really love from them to release an RS8 speaker...and there are some beta samples around...but they just wouldnt sell that many, so its a pretty niche market and it doesnt make sense to produce

I don’t know if this holds any weight but when I downloaded the blackbird software it had me go ahead and update to the dna interface.

though I didn’t have a blackbird installed, just was looking over the software when I was deciding whether to buy one

I’ve owned both. 2 PS8s and 1 Pro. I tried LM4562, Burson V5i and stock opamps in the non-Pro. Like Mic said, the Pro comes with, and is built around, the 5532, and needs to be modified if you want to swap them.

The Pro is miles ahead of the regular PS8: hardware used, software ease of use and features, build quality, circuit design, everything. It’s expensive though. The Helix DSP.3S is the only decent alternative I’ve come across. Depending on how your system is setup, the Aerospace 6to8 might also be worth considering.
