From what I can see, they offer similar features. What are the advantages of the Minidsp? Its $275 compared to the $150 of the Dayton.
Originally I was going to buy the minidsp, but the Dayton seems to be a better deal.

Thoughts on the two?

Mini 6x8 had noise complaints in the past. You might not hear about it now because... well they're not a hot ticket item as they used to be. To be honest, for what the 6x8 costs and offers, I'd rather save a few bucks more for a used Helix DSP (.1 for $300?) when they pop up, or get the Dayton. The Mini 6x8's BNIB value isn't there like it used to be now that other low cost new or used items can be found.

I'm running both now. I've had problems the the Dayton with a couple of different ones I've owned at different times. It's noisy for an sq product when not broken but it's value is superior. PE customer service is good. So is Minidsp's for that matter. I actually prefer Mini's because they initiate real time chats with just you.

I prefer the 6x8 but I now recommended the Dayton due to the following statement.

I disagree with the Dayton being noisy.
I am not silly enough to think it is one if the best DSP's. It might be in the top 10 LOL. I know mine does not emit or create any detectable noise. People are experiencing minor installation issues that are being overlooked such as signal wire proximity to power wire, loose RCA grounding, low headunit voltage output, faulty amp gain settings, other due diligence failures.

No. The noise floor is higher than zero. It your going for extreme sq it's noisy.

I just installed one in my son's car so I obviously like it. I'm probably going to put one in my wife's car too. They are great for 150. Shoot better than great. I can even say I don't see what all the complaints about the Bluetooth module are. I think it works well. Mine isn't slow. There's no delay in feedback. Streams music as it should. The remote read out is to bright but I have a thread showing how I took care of that problem.

My Dayton was noisy. If over 60 in the output volume it created much hiss. Either with the remote or without it 60 was the cutoff to keep the hiss at bay. I spoke with parts express and they asked what headunit I had. They told the Dayton works better with lower preout voltages. The kenwood 9905 I have supposedly has 5v preouts. Sold the Dayton got the jl and the SQ improved and the hiss went down. Year later sold the Jl and got the helix and there is no comparison. The helix sounded much much more detailed and better in every way possible. And that was without doing any tuning at all. I just input the time alignment numbers, crossovers and channel levels.

I got my helix dsp.3 with urc.3 remote brand new for 575$. It depends on what you plan to do? Is this a SQ system? How much asjustments do you need? The helix has optional cards for adding usb or WiFi connections also. The Dayton has 10bands of peq for each channel same with the jl. For a total of 80 bands. The helix has 30 peq bands per channel for total of 240 bands and all channels can be linked to do global eq. It has an input rta built in. And an output rta with auto eq if wanted. There is really no comparison

You can find the Helix DSP.1 (first gen unofficially called .1) for $300-350 when they pop up. Saw it go for less a couple of times. It really just depends on what capabilities you need out of it. I have the .1 in both of my vehicles and it does more than enough since I run aftermarket decks that provide BT and need no signal restoration.

“Of course ! 60 on the master volume is one notch under where the unit distorts the output. Mine outputs distortion at 61”

really? Doesn’t it go up to 100 also? What causes it to distort at such a low volume? That is a lot or unusable output! Parts express didn’t mention this when I spoke with them.

the helix doesn’t distort the output untill I go past 0 and it’s output gain is something like -60 to +5 .

Master volume on the Dayton 408 goes to 66.

I really like my cdsp 8x12, it is more than what you are looking for but it is very quiet and seems quite powerful. The 8x12 adds a lot of features, a much better chip, and a noise isolating circuitry.
