Came across this on another site. 29.99 for one at best buy. 4 of these would be pretty nice for 130 plus tax

People have been doing all sorts of stuff with these (I have yet to read up on it though):

Based on WinISD modeling, they appear to like big enclosures (3.94 ft^3 sealed for .707 Qtc, 37.6 Hz F3).

1.8 ft^3 for full power while keeping excursion in check (.845 Qtc, 39.7 Hz F3) (blue). Or 7.0 ft^3 vented at 21 Hz, for an 18.2 Hz F3 (green).

Or JBL-recommended 1.75 ft^3 vented at 34 Hz, for a 32.2 Hz F3 and a 4 dB rise at 53.6 Hz (relying on cabin gain for extension).

I do have a favor to ask of you box gurus. Under my coffee table, I have room for 39" Width X 11.5" Height X 25" Depth. And that leaves ~1" for woofer excursion firing down. Give 3/4" material, that gives me a gross box volume of ~5.1 ft^3. Can someone rough design a slot-vented enclosure? For 2 subs

Depends on the driver in question, and your application, preferences and expectations...

As I posted earlier (post #6), green response curve is one driver in 7.0 ft^3 vented at 21 Hz tuning frequency (Fb), and is what I would consider ideal for home theater and/or stereo use (i.e. flattest response with maximum low frequency extension).

As I posted earlier (post #6), green response curve is JBL-recommended 1.75 ft^3 vented at 34 Hz (intended for in-car use, where space is limited and cabin gain will greatly enhance low frequency extension).

Here's two drivers sharing 5.1 ft^3 (net volume - not including driver and port displacement) vented at 25.5 Hz - the tuning frequency which provides flattest response and maximum extension with lowest F3 (26.6 Hz), which is the frequency at which response is -3 dB).

I’ve been burned by Black Friday deals in the past, especially electronics ones that don’t last. However, it appears JBL likely targeted this specific model for volume production, they aren’t offering the deal with other impedences or cone sizes. If there was an 8” and I could buy a few of them….I’d take the chance for sure.

received the two I ordered yesterday. The packing was less than desired but all fine with the sub boxes. Basically the stuck the two subs in a large brown box with strip of tape that didnt hold. Basically the box was open showing the contents.
Over the holiday, my son and I will build the bandpass box listed. Should be a fun project to learn some wood cutting for both of us.

Just got mine yesterday. Packaged well. These we inside a brown cardboard box:

Still can't believe they were $30/woofer. Couldn't pass that up. Planning on building a sub for my TV room. Anybody have a link to a plate amp I should use? I've never built a home subwoofer before. I looked at parts-express, but don't know what I'm looking for.

Place your Parts Express order by 11/21 and save 15% ( use code: HARVEST15 ).

Presuming you're using both drivers, and given that they're rated at 250 W RMS and 4 ohms, you'll want an amp that can do 500 W RMS at either 2 or 8 ohms, or 250 W RMS x 2 at 4 ohms.

If you don't absolutely have to go with a plate amp, I would recommend this (I've been using one of these and also an XLS 1502 for several years, for daily subwoofer duty on two home systems, and love I them):

I know this is an old thread but @chuyler1 this is a Dayton SA25 on 1.28ft³ downfiring box, tuned to 20hz and uses a Diamond CM310d4 wired to 2ohm.
Guy downstairs can hear it on the other side of the house...at 1/2 volume on the plate, 30/100 on the tv and -15db on the receiver (constant).

IMAX-status in my room.
