So I have been looking into building a bike to compete in the Featherweight class. They don't divide classed by watts, but by speaker qty and class of the driver. Here are the class specs:

FEATHERWEIGHT
  • Up to 6 overall speaker count
SADDLE BAG RESTRICTIONS
  • Sealed saddle bags ARE NOT PERMITTED. NO SEALED BAGS! TMC/SOS officials must be able to see inside your saddle bag at which time the speaker must be fully visible. No removable/partial, etc enclosures. Any issues will cause for possible disqualification or moved to another class which is in discretion of the SOS.
  • up to (1) one single 10” mid-bass/ midrange speaker per bag or dual 8” mid-bass/ midrange speakers per bag. (NO SUBWOOFERS)
  • Saddle bags MAY have a port design that may exit out from the interior of the bag.
  • You may also do minor modifications such as add fiberglass, sound deadener and braces to enforce side walls.
  • Saddle bags and side covers may be molded together where the bag and side cover meet.
  • Saddle Bags and saddle bag lids may not exceed the width of 9.25 inches at any point.
So in conversation, I asked how do I determine if a 10" speaker is a 'midbass' or 'subwoofer'. I was told that the manufacturer will label it. It's not spec-driven at all.

With that said, suggestions on 10" 'midbass' drivers besides PRV? Not worried about material for waterproofing.

I would think any application is "true" spec dependent. I mean if a midbass in a two system with 3/4 tweets can't play cleanly past 400 what use is it?

I always believed it was the FS and the frequency response range. Where a 10" subwoofer typically plays 20hz +/- up 200hz-800hz on avg, while mid-bass driver typically are not designed to play much lower that say 40hz and that's the really good driver's. Almost all I have seen in powersports play well pass 800hz and can be used in a 2 way set where you would never mate a tweeter to a subwoofer. What brands are you looking at? I know for me the new DB Xpert 10" with the carbon fiber cone is king right now.
