Last summer I finally bought a corvette. I need a sub that s going to take up a relatively small footprint. IM thinking I need a shallow mount sub that will be pushed by a Rockford Fosgate T750X1bd. I need to be able to have room for the top that goes in the back. I listen to mostly hai rmetal, classic rock. Im 100% about sound quality. I currently have Alpine typeR 12s in my truck and those are solid IMO. Im not looking at spending a grand.... somewhere in the 4-700 dollar range I can deal with.

All help is much appreciated.

The illusion c10 and c12 seem to be the popular choices around here but over your budget. Might be able to find a used one. You also have the JL 10 & 12tw3 which are excellent. And you have the new hertz sub which i believe is a copy of the JL.

I was just thinking of that video and that someone should post it. If I recall correctly, the JL came out on top.

This would be one to consider with known build quality

That guy is smoking crack. These weren't $1500 new. 650 +250 shipping buy it now. I can't find the original retail price but I think it was around 400.

But hey, xbl^2 and .76 mh inductance. Sounds like it could be a good front sub I would have to model it but it could be a good ib under seat midbass since you have a pair of them.

Dude!!! don't give me ideas. 🫨 lol I didn't even think of a front sub. I told him they didn't cost 1500 he brushed me off though. I paid 400 for both. 😃

I don't have much experience with shallow subwoofers, only a few like the kenwood excelon, fosgate P3 shallow 10 & 12, JBL Club, and the JL TW5 13.5"

Hands down the most impressive (& the most expensive) of the bunch was the TW5 13.

Now FWIW IMHO and IIRC (its been over 8 years since I had it) it was very good for SQ but really bad for 60hz and lower. I used it in a compact sedan in a JL audio built-to-spec box.

all the other subs I listed don't even come close. But once I tried a shallow subwoofer, I went straight back to traditional subwoofers, my logic (and ears) keep telling me you can't manipulate the physics of audio/sound with a shallow subwoofer.

Not sure it was mentioned yet but if I read correctly you have experience with Alpine Type-Rs, why not just stick with that. Their new shallow mount Type-R was number one on my list for my truck install but the wife wouldn't green light $650 for a single speaker; It falls within your price range though (Alpine RS-W12D2). I also looked at the Rockford Fosgate T1S (about $499 for a 12") but opted against it. I ended up going cheaper and getting the Kicker CompRT for $179....now I am wishing I got two. Good luck.

IM 53 and been with my wife since I was 16. She has bought a new 2006 Honda Accord, 2010 Honda Accord, and currently drives a 2015 Mazda Miata convertible. All that time I have been driving a 2000 Silverado since about 2007. We have put 4 daughters through college, 1 with a Masters, the two youngest about to start grad school, daughter 2 getting married this October..... needless to say, Ive not really gotten EXACTLY what Ive wanted. So, this past Summer I finally got a 2006 C6 Corvette. It is immaculate and I want the system to be what I want. I have the Hertz MPK 165.3 mids and Tweets up front, and have a makeshift box with the type r currently installed. I want the box to not look so much like a box, I want it to blend in with the car.

This is why I prefer a shallow mount that takes up a smaller footprint. I am using Rockford t750xbd that will do 750 watts at 2ohms, and the Rockford T400X4AD to run those mids and tweets. Both of those amps also have a small footprint with the Dayton DSP-408.

Since I have the best wife ever, she is giving me the go ahead to do this the way I want since she knows how long Ive waited for this car. So I am not against any particular speaker, IM just wanting some opinions on what is a damn good sub at my price range that is going to take up a small footprint.

The tops on the se cars come off and go in the trunk and I will not compromise the ability to do so. And at 53, I listen fairly loud, but certainly not like I did at 23. I could put two in if I wanted , I just doubt I will need two.

Thank for all the input. I am intrigued by those Stereo Integrity Magv4's mentioned at the top of the thread, but it does worry me a little uying a sub that has sat for 15 years in a wharehouse. They look great, price seems ok.... but I will be pissed if I jumped on those and they had issues from sitting so long.

I am also intrigued by the JL Audio 12tw3. IM sure either way I go they will be a good sub, but the Stereo Integrity would be about 2 for the price of the 1 JL Audio.

Anyone want to go in on those SI and split the cost? I really only need 1.

He also selling them separately. Supposedly he still has 12 of them place a bid for one and see if it goes through for you. Or send him an offer. I'm sure he'll sell it for 200$

Ebay listing has a single for$160 plus 42 shipping. I am on fence, yet the age and deterioration of rubber bits is a big concern. 15 years is alot.
I dont know for sure... but my type R's in my truck are probably 15 years old and Ive no problem with them.
My very first home stereo after being married was bought in 1990. It had 3 way tower speakers in them with a 12 inch woofer... I finally tossed them last year. I had them in my garage for years and they were still great sounding. I just didnt need them any longer... but think about that...... those things were 31 years old and still sounded good.

Are we considering shallow mount subs as being under 6 inches mounting depth? You can find real 12's that are under 6 which should have better tonal qualities opposed to shallow mount woofers.
