I am sorry in advance for bringing the Alpine 701 again, I did do the search and read many posts but couldnt find answers for my question , your comments are greatly appreciated.
My HU is the Alpine W205 , I know for an audiophile there are several better SQ units, but it is simply convenience for me...I already know that the DAC in the HU is mediocre at best. I am planning a fully active 4 way system using all Linear Power amps dedicated channels per driver, so the quest started trying to find the infamous XO3 Xover from Linear Power.. so far no avail...thus the consideration of the H701 Alpine.
1- I have read the manual of the 701 , so I am familiar with its features.. question is how does the crossover in it compared to the best electronic Xovers out there? The Xover is the most important feature for me, I am not into EQ, nor all the other bells and whistles.. DTS etc...
2- I take it that the H701 manipulates everything in the digital domain, before it outputs it to the RCA outputs.. right ? That would mean that there are DAC / DACs on board of the 701.. has anyone looked into the quality of these DAC compared to the best outboard DACs from say Nakamichi or Mcintosh?
If I cant find the right active analog crossover, then I think it is better to have the frequencies adjusted in the digital domain..question is , is the quality of sound worth it?
Thanks everyone
