What 6.5 components to replace my beloved Boston Pro 6.4 components

I have been out of the game for over 20 years and I am finally ready to set up a system again…

I barely recognize the market… Boston Acoustics has gotten out of the aftermarket game and Soundstream and MB Quart are now nothing more than Chinese junk peddled at flea markets… seems my old "go to" brands are out and I'm just not familiar with who makes the quality stuff today.

I still have some of my 90s era amps and subs that I plan to use, but I am at a loss as to what to use for my mids and highs…

I absolutely loved the sound of the Boston Pro series back in the day and would like to know if any manufactures produce components that have a similar sound and performance… I hate asking at audio shops because they just try to push whatever brand they sell…
Thanks in advance!

Isn’t it sad how awesome brands back in the day are now junk

Some have improved but many are junk

Hybrid Audio is another brand I would consider in addition to what was already mentioned

MB quart is still kinda alive, now caller German Maestro or something like that.

I tried the Boston Pro 6.5’s as well as their subs back in the day and wasn’t a fan. I listened to them in a sales reps car and liked them, put them in my car and they didn’t last.

Not really sure what would give you a similar sound, however the brands mentioned above as well as others like Hertz make great products.

Trying to find something that gives similar sound is going to be a real challenge. The car dictates how the speakers will sound so much that it just isn't realistic to try to find speakers that will duplicate that sound in a different car. Having said that, there have been some great suggestions already, if you want to add a DSP and go active, you'll have even more options, but I understand if you want a system, not a hobby.

dude snag dayton reference mids and a peerless xt25 tweeter. then run them active off an amp or head unit that has bandpass xovers. Even good budget amps have em these days. That pair is going to CRUSH anything youll find for that price range. I'd put them up against much more expensive sets in fact. I just installed the focal krx2 set and the dayton/vifa pair hangs with them all day, they were 1300$ set.

You could add a dayton reference 4" midrange or something else and run 3 way and still be wayyyy under budget if you want (this is what i run, its amazing)

*i missed your comment saying you prefer passive, but im going to keep this post up anyway, the money you save on drivers can go to the amp capable of bandpass. simple)
