Noise from Helix P-DSP? Defective or something else? Video inside

I've been having some noise issues with (I think) my Helix P-DSP. It's installed in an Infiniti G35 using the stock head unit and two Kenwood XR-4S amps going to Morel Virtus 603.

When the system is powered up, I often (though not always -- 50-75% of the time) get a weird noise through the tweeters. It's kind of an electronic whine that slowly changes pitch. Here's a video I took this afternoon -- the HU volume is set to zero and the car is in ACC mode. The noise in question starts at 23 seconds. Probably need to turn up the volume a bit to hear it.

Muting the outputs from the DSP through the software interface has no effect on the noise. However, if I pull the RCA outputs for the tweeters, that eliminates the noise, so I suspect that's where the problem is. Here's a video with disconnected outputs from the DSP to the tweeter amp to compare.

My immediate inclination is to believe the DSP may be defective, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Changing settings in the software have no effect whatsoever. Any thoughts/suggestions, or should I contact the retailer?

RTA and see if there is a big peak at 12khz
depending on which firmware version you have. some older ones, as Erin discovered, has a huge peak at 12khz

Thanks, this is pretty reassuring to hear. I've played around with disconnecting various bits before and after the DSP to narrow down the culprit, and it always seems to be happening at the unit. Just this morning, I had a hiss coming through all speakers when I went to work. I think I'll look into a replacement.

I was getting the EXACT same noise from a Zed Leviathan III,couldn't get rid of the noise no matter what I tried, ended up rewiring the entire system, nothing fixed it.Removed the Zed,put my $199 4 channel JVC and the system was noise free again.Hearing that noise again brought back some bad memories lol

yep. sounds like you found the issue I did. apparently they had a batch of them with this issue. I sent them an email about it with the data I had collected on it showing a very large peak starting at 2khz and extending up to 12khz. IIRC, it got to about +8dB before it fell back down. Rico was excellent to deal with and had me a replacement ASAP.

How can I get in touch with Rico? Is he at RF or directly from Helix? I am having noise issues also along with what seems like a voltage spike that has taken out 2 of my TRU amps so far. Not happy to say the least.....

call RF, Rico works for RF and is pretty much the only person you can talk to in the US about the P-DSP and getting it serviced.
dont even bother trying to talk to anyone at RF tech support--they'll just telll you after 15minutes of going back and forth with a problem --" well you need to talk to Rico"

Rf is the US distributor for Brax/helix

I talked to someone (or I thought at least) named Ricardo at RF on Wednesday and explained my issue. He said he hadn't run across it before but since it's the common link between one amp being blown once and one being blown twice it's likely the culprit. This has been a nightmare between the delays, shipping fees, and now repair costs for the amps. Just my luck....

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna go check RF's site and see if he has an email listed.
